CGHI Young Professionals Series


The Community Team in the Coalition for Global Health Innovation (CGHI) is the engine behind the community building, community engagement and the development and operations of the CGHI’s pre-incubator, Action Tank Program. As stated in CGHI’s mission;

“The Coalition for Global Health Innovation is a non-profit organisation led by early career professionals with the mission to cultivate innovative solutions to create healthy spaces for all people by empowering early career professionals within global health to develop and act on their ideas.”

In the aim of increasing community engagement, the Community Team has launched the CGHI Young Professionals Series. The CGHI Young Professionals Series (henceforth referred to as the YPS), may take the format of virtual talks, discussions, presentations or workshops on global health topics and career opportunities.

Unveiling Hidden Realities: Mental Health Experiences of Young Women with HIV - Case studies in Kenya & South Africa

Lynn Hendricks (Stellenbosch University, South Africa) gave a presentation on enabling environments for young women living with HIV to thrive. She conducted a four-year research study with young women in Cape Town who were born with perinatal HIV infections. Many children born HIV-positive may not know their status until they are older, and some may lose parents or siblings to HIV.

Mamtuti Panneh (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) explores the relationship between violence, mental health, and HIV risks, with a focus on vulnerable populations such as female sex workers. The discussion begins by defining key terminologies related to sex work, violence, and mental health. The presentation covers topics such as violence and mental health among female sex workers, the association between HIV and violence/mental health, and the role of the stress response system.

Food Systems: Can We Sustain Healthy Diets? Why Does Energy Access Matter?

Giulia Nicolini is a researcher at the International Institute for Environment & Development (IED) in London, where she works on food systems and agriculture. Giulia is interested in the intersection of food and the environment, and the use of social sciences, particularly qualitative methods, to address key challenges which link the two.

Anne Charlotte Bunge is a PhD candidate at the Stockholm Resilience Centre in Sweden, where she focuses her research on assessing the sustainability of novel food system technologies and the transformative potential for the Swedish food sector. She holds a MSc in Public Health from the Charité in Berlin where she was active as a Campus Ambassador for Planetary Health, raising awareness on the interconnectedness of environmental degradation and human health.
